The Argentine and Barcelona superstar has been one of the most disciplined footballers across the globe as his career has recorded little to no controversy.

Starting his juvenile career at the Barca academy and rising to the senior ranks, Lionel Messi has been known to always keep his cool and composure on the field and mostly got back at his falters with an extravaganza.

Barcelona in home fixture against a poised Athletic Bilbao for the Spanish Super Cup brought more thrills than would have been expected as another long holding record was broken. Barcelona like Real Madrid are noted not to be on their best of form as Real Madrid lost the Super Cup semifinals against Athletic Bilbao.

As the fixture between Barca and Bilbao kicked off, Barcelona on a usual kept majority of possession and found the back of the net in the 40’ through Antoine Griezmann. Their lead did not last as Oscar de Marcos equalized for the away team.

At the of the first half, both managers went onto their respective drawing boards with a goal apiece and a cup to win. 32’ into the second half, Antoine Griezmann netted his second for Barcelona with a sweet assist from Jordi Alba, this looked enough to win the Catalan the trophy, but the persistence of Athletic Bilbao paid off in the 90’ as Asier Villalibre drew his side.

The game proceeded to extra time and after just 4’ into extra time, Inaki Williams stunned Barca with a 3rd goal. Athletic Bilbao has come back twice to take the lead against Barcelona at the Camp Nou.

In the 119’, Barcelona has the chance to break for an equalizer but Lionel Andreas Messi committed a foul in that process and play was been held for a VAR check. Messi had his arm flaying as his elbow caught Asier Villalibre.

After two minutes of checking for potential violent conduct by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), Lionel Messi was dismissed by the referee. The looks on his face as he walked off showed his disappoint as most fans has bashed him for letting his team down.
