10th Edition National Cycling Road Championships Culminates in Spectacular Success

The Ghana Cycling Federation is thrilled to announce the triumphant conclusion of the 10th Edition National Cycling Road Championships, held from Olebu Ablekuma Pokuasi Route date 30 th November 2024. This landmark event brought together the country’s finest cyclists, who showcased their skill, endurance, and sportsmanship in an unforgettable display of athletic excellence.
Over one day of intense competition, 65 participants from across 5 regions of Ghana competed across multiple categories, including Elite Men, Elite Women, Under-23, and Junior men and women categories.
The championship featured a challenging course that highlighted the scenic beauty and demanding terrain winds of Olebu Ablekuma Pokuasi stretch, providing a true test of strength and strategy.
Highlights of the Event:
The 30 years Francis Amu of FCG cycling club claimed victory in the Elite Men’s category with an outstanding escape performance, completing the 100 kilometer course in 2hr. 37 minutes 20 seconds of an average speed of 38.14Kmh Ellen Anim of Club Sky Team, dominating the 50 kilometers Elite Women’s road race and the 25 kilometers Time Trial, demonstrated exceptional stamina and strategy to secure her title with the time of 1hr. 46 minutes 1 second with average speed of 28.30kmh and 47 minutes 3 seconds of average speed of 31.88kmh respectively.
The sensational promising 20 years Emmanuel Sesi of Royal Stars cycling club in the Volta Region placed 1 st position in the men under 23 and 2 nd position in the men elite road race of 100 kilometers with the time of 2hr. 25 minutes 10 seconds of average of 38.10kmh.
The 17 years promising junior cyclist of River Park Eastern Region Farrakhan Shaaban Mohammed worn both men junior category of the 62.5 kilometers road race and the Time Trial of the 25 kilometers race in the time of 1hr. 47 minutes. 14 seconds (average speed 34.97kmh) and 38 minutes 10 seconds (average speed 39.30kmh) respectively, he successfully escapes from the peloton and maintains their advantage to cross the finish line alone, he shows his UCI training techniques to beat his opponent by brake out at the first lap of the 6 laps distance of 62.5km.
Farrakhan and Foster benefited from the 2024 UCI athlete’s solidarity program in Cape Town South Africa last November.
The Under 23 and the Elite 25 kilometer time trial was worn by Frank Love Quaye of The Boss Tribes (TBT) cycling club. He was crowned two gold medals in Men Elite and under 23 categories with the time of 36 minutes 3 seconds (average speed 41.61kmh).
Fifty- six male cyclists and five females from twelve cycling clubs participated in the tenth anniversary of the annual championship from various regions of Ghana. The championships not only celebrated athletic achievement but also promoted the spirit of unity, encouraging fitness and the sport of cycling throughout the nation. The event drew more than 2000 spectators including kids from Sena Foundation School cycling initiative program, creating an electrifying atmosphere both on and off the course.
“We are immensely proud of the success of this year’s championships,” said by Mohammed B. Sahnoon Esq., President of the Ghana Cycling Federation. “This milestone 10th edition reflects the growth of cycling in our country and inspires future generations to take up this incredible sport.”
