Ghana boxing his year has seen many fighters competing for national and international titles with some fighting their way back to glory. Isaac ‘Royal Storm’ Dogboe, Richard Commey among others have been slated to fights which arrays them for title shots later this month. Swavy Blu Promotions in collaboration with Bronx Boxing Promotions after an eventful year will stage the WBO Africa Lightweight championship which will feature Sheriff Quaye who has a record of (20-3-1) fighting from Ghana and Emmanuel Amos with a record of (16-5-1) fighting from Tanzania. The fight which has been dated for December 10 will be hosted at the Golden Beach Hotel in Accra.
Themed ‘The Renaissance’, the former president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) Samir Captan, now WBO Africa president reiterated,
“the WBO title is a stepping stone to the main world title and I hope Quaye will capture the opportunity to reach the ultimate. It is the dream of every fighter to make it to the world title and knowing Quaye to be one of the best, nothing should stop him”.
I have always advised boxers to be disciplined and appreciate the efforts of their manages and promoters, it is never easy to get a manager who will go all out to ensure you are on the world map and they do that hand in hand with the promoters, arrogance has caused many boxers the opportunity to compete for world titles and I hope we curtail that.”
I entreat our new GBA Executive to concentrate on supporting boxers and promoters as their support will aid the sports and the nation when it comes to producing not champions in quantity but in quality so they can go out there and defend their titles anytime they are called upon. Sheriff Quaye must not see Emmanuel Amos to be a walk over, he needs to train extra hours in his bid to stand a chance of a world title next year.”
Mr. George Lamptey, President of the Ghana Boxing Federation during the press appealed to promoters to feature some amateur bouts to keep the national team boxers in shape ahead of the commonwealth games and to keep them active in the ring.
Sheriff ‘One time’ Quaye the former national champion added,
“this is a great opportunity and I will grab it with both hands on my pursuit of becoming a champion again, it always feels good to have the belt around your waist and it makes you train even harder because you always want to keep the title. I am grateful to everyone for their unwarranted support, I thanked my fans, gym mates and the media who have helped in putting the information across. As promises are hard to keep, I will not promise but I will train hard and stay disciplined to become a world champion by 2022.”
