Teofimo Lopez after blood oozing from a cut sustained on the top of his left eye is finding it difficult to accept defeat to Australia’s George Kambosos Jr. after their blood bath at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Former champion Teofimo Lopez declared he won his fight with new Aussie world champion George Kambosos Jr, claiming he took 10 out of the 12 rounds without doubt.
Lopez was a hot favourite following his victory over Loma to continue his unbeaten run but fell prey to Kambosos in a split decision, 115-111, 115-113, 113-114.
With his corner men trying to stop the blood flow, Lopez who was convinced he won the fight ranted, “He’s a hell of a fighter, but I won tonight, everybody knows that.
The referee raised my hand. I won tonight, I don’t care what anybody says yo, I won tonight. At the end of the day, I’ve been here, I done that, I want to thank God, I want to thank everybody that came out tonight, look, I ain’t no sore loser, I take my wins like I take my losses, I don’t care what anybody says man.”
With the crowd cheering on the new champion, Lopez continued to add “The referee knew I won tonight. Everybody knew I won tonight,” causing a loud outcry of boos from a crowd which had been heavily in favour of the Brooklyn-based Lopez throughout the bout.
At the end of the day man I’m a true champion, I did what I had to do, and I went out there and did my best. I don’t care what anybody says man, I am as real as they come, and this is the takeover man, we don’t stop, we keep coming.
Yo, at the end of the day man, I love you all, I won this fight.”
