Meet some of the incredible women helping to deliver the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

Female employees of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, the entity responsible for projects for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, have expressed their pride in participating in the preparations for hosting the first edition of the World Cup in the Arab world and the Middle East. In an interview with Qatar2022.qa website, on the occasion of International Women’s Day, the female employees of the Supreme Committee stressed their happiness to have the honour of participating in organizing the tournament, by working in a team of more than 300 women, many of whom occupy senior leadership positions.

The women talked about the unique advantages of the work experience in preparing for the World Cup, foremost of which is participating in the organization of a historical event that brings the world together under the umbrella of football, and the diverse work environment that is full of high-level competencies from all over the world.

Moza Al Mohannadi: We work in an atmosphere of team spirit

Moza Al Mohannadi, a Qatari national who holds the position of Director of Marketing and Communications in the Generation Amazing Program, said that joining the body responsible for implementing World Cup projects, and in a work environment characterized by a team spirit and challenge, is what appeals to her and is consistent with her personality.

Al-Mohannadi, who joined the Higher Committee in 2015, added: “My mother raised me with my sister after my father passed away during my childhood, and she was a great inspiration to me, as she instilled in our self-confidence and taught us to do our best and determination to achieve our goals.”

Al-Mohannadi indicated that now that she has become a mother of three daughters, she continues to follow her mother’s path in inspiring and empowering her daughters, and urging them to achieve what they aspire to while continuing the journey of developing her skills on both the personal and professional levels.

Jenny Lee Van Gelder: An inclusive work environment that provides equal opportunities for all

Australian Jenny Lee Van Gelder, Director of Events Management, expressed her happiness to work with a distinguished cadre from many countries of the world, and within a comprehensive work environment that provides equal opportunities for all. She indicated her pride in the experience of working in the Supreme Committee, which is based on cooperation and mutual respect, while striving to achieve a common goal, as well as the support of the team members to each other in various walks of life in general, in order to bring about a positive change that will last for a long time.

Jenny, who joined the Supreme Committee’s work team in 2020, said: “We take this opportunity to highlight the achievements and contributions made by women, whether historical over decades, or on a personal level. Participation in Qatar’s hosting of this huge event united us all. With a common goal, we strive to organize the most exciting and impressive edition that welcomes all fans and celebrates them at a global football festival.”

Afra Al Nuaimi: I look forward to inspiring the next generation of women to take up senior positions

For her part, Qatari Afra Al Nuaimi, Executive Director of the Jusoor Institute, the educational arm of the Supreme Committee, said that women play a key role in many departments and programs of the Supreme Committee, which is very impressive, noting that she had a wonderful career over the nine years. In the past, where she rose on the career ladder from the director of human resources to director of administration, and then to executive director.

Al Nuaimi added: “I faced many challenges during my career with the Higher Committee, and I also had many promising opportunities, as well as many of my female colleagues, and we received great support from the senior management, and we had the opportunity to advance career depending on the efficiency of performance.”

She continued, “I am proud to have this exceptional opportunity and to assume the tasks of directing the staff through my current position, and I am overwhelmed with feelings of happiness to continue to reap more success and achievement, and inspire the next generation of women to assume senior and leadership positions.”

Maryam Al-Muftah: Hosting the World Cup is a shining point in Qatar’s history

Qatari Mariam Al-Muftah, Director of the Digital Services and Innovation Department at the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, confirmed that the work in organizing the World Cup is an exceptional event for her and a historic tournament that is the first of its kind in the region. This gives more privacy to the nature of her work.

Al-Muftah continued: “I have had the opportunity to work with a group of colleagues since I joined the Supreme Committee nine years ago, including many influential women who have high-level skills, and who contribute to a key role in Qatar’s journey towards the 2022 World Cup, and constitute an added value in one of the shining stations. In the country’s history, which is a constant motivator that motivates me to achieve more and progress.”

Isabel Davalos: The diverse team assures that the World Cup is for everyone

Spain’s Isabel Davalos, an international media relations expert, said that she was lucky to follow the stages of preparation for the World Cup since the period before the construction of the tournament’s stadiums, noting the importance of working alongside many women from around the world who bring valuable experiences and innovative ideas.

Isabelle, who joined the Supreme Committee in 2014, added: “Joining a diverse team with world-class expertise enriches the work environment and contributes an added value to a tournament targeting global audiences, which confirms that the Qatar World Cup 2022 is an inclusive tournament for all.”

Asha Hussein: The female employees of the Supreme Committee are a model for pioneers of change-making in the world

As for Asha Hussein, Director of the Digital Society, a British woman of Somali descent, who recently joined the SC team, she confirmed that her colleagues are role models for leading women change-makers in the world, which is a great honour for her and her colleagues and an aspiration sought by many women around the world.

Asha praised the experience of working in Qatar, noting that the host country for the next edition of the World Cup has a unique work environment that attracts many nationalities and is more diverse and richer than any other place she has worked in.

And she continued, “During my career, I saw many women of various nationalities and cultures occupying senior positions and influential leadership roles in decision-making, and contributing actively and positively in various fields. Women must always display a spirit of competition and achieve pioneering achievements that they are proud of, as well as a positive impact. to motivate and inspire others.”

Dr Talar Sasovaroglu: I look forward to sharing my passion for football with fans from all over the world

Talar Sasovaroglu, sustainability and environmental expert, a Canadian of Armenian origin who grew up in Doha, expressed her happiness to return to work in Qatar, to witness the renaissance achieved by the country, and to contribute, through her experience in the field of sustainability, to organizing the Qatar 2022 World Cup and described the work in the Supreme Committee as an experience. Rare and collecting many cultures and traditions in one place.

Talar, who has been serving on the Supreme Committee since 2013, said she is looking forward to kicking off the World Cup matches and sharing her passion for football from around the world. She added, “We are all looking forward to celebrating this football festival with fans from around the world, and I look forward to watching the ladies enjoy this historic event and get to know closely the rich culture of Qatar and the region.”
