Crested Cranes attacker Hasifah Nassuna is relishing the TotalEnergies WAFCON 2022 dream after netting her 100th league goal. Nassuna scored the iconic goal in her side’s 2-1 loss to Kampala Queens FC in the FUFA Women Super league game played at the IUIU play ground on Wednesday 11th May 2022.

Arguably one of the greatest female footballer Uganda has ever had, Hasifa Nassuna decorated her already admirable and glamorous status with yet another milestone when the Crested Cranes and UCU Lady Cardinals attacker became the first player score 100 league goals in the National Women Football league organized by Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

She is the first footballer to reach this feat in the league that dates back in 2015 starting as the FUFA Women Elite League (FWEL) before rebranding into the now FUFA Women Super League in 2020 (FWSL).

I am the happiest person today because I together with my friends and fans have waited for this moment for some time. I am glad it has finally come and now my desire is to play professional football. Hasifa Nassuna

In the 2019 season after switching allegiance to UCU Lady Cardinals from Kawempe Muslim, Nassuna guided her new side to their maiden league title emerging top scorer (with 16 goals) and Most Valuable Player of the season, the first time one player took both gongs in the same season.

Record Champion

Nassuna together with her former teammate and national team Captain Ruth Aturo are the most decorated players in the league having won 4 league titles between 2015 and 2018 with Kawempe before adding another with UCU Lady Cardinals in 2019. The pair with Sharon Apon and Collins Ahumuza are also the only players to win the league with two different teams. Besides the league title, Nassuna has also amassed three MVP awards and three top scorer accolades.

Turning Pro is next target

Shortly after reaching the 100-goal mark Nassuna expressed her deepest desire of playing professional football something she believes has been long overdue.

‘I am the happiest person today because I together with my friends and fans have waited for this moment for some time. I am glad it has finally come and now my desire is to play professional football.’ Remarked the soft spoken Nassuna a daughter to Annet Nakimbugwe a former Crested Cranes player herself.

As a player I cannot say that I have scored 100 goals and now that is it. I want to continue scoring and possibly score as many goals as I can but most importantly now as a professional.

Relishing the WAFCON Dream.

With the TotalEnergies WAFCON just a few weeks away and the Crested Cranes set to make a second appearance after 22 years, Nassuna believes it is an opportune moment for her and her teammates to showcase what they are capable.

‘It is such a great feeling and I know just like me many of my colleagues have been longing for the chance to play at such a level. We are excited that it is here and can’t wait to showcase to Africa and the world what we are capable of as we embrace the opportunities it brings.” Stated Nassuna.

Breakdown of Nassuna’s league goals:
