Sports Federation Heads Commend MYS And LOC for 13th African Games

Some sports Federations presidents have hailed the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for attending to their needs for the 13th African Games.

Mr. Nathaniel Johnson, president of Ghana Karate do said although there were initial challenges, the competition was very successful and advised that next time the federations should be involve at an early stage and the experience of the Games has changed outlook of some officials and athletes.

Mr. Bawa Fuseini, president of Ghana Athletics said he feels content and the most gained because they can boast of new Mondo tracks and modern electronic gadgets for world class competition, including false start detectors at the Legon Sports Stadium.

He promised a wonderful experience when track & field starts.

Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, president of table tennis said the new facilities will help young players to develop into top stars in the near future.

President of Ghana and African Armwrestling. Mr. Charles Osei Asibey promised to increase Ghana’s medals haul with 15.

Mr. Ato Vaness, president of Ghana Basketball said their competition comes up at the Legon Netball        Court and he is happy for the new equipment that will be used at the high class competition.

Mr. Evans Yeboah, president of Ghana Badminton shared some experience as one of the first disciplines to start the competition and feelings of players.

President of Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, President of Ghana Boxing , Mr. Bernard Quartey and Mr. Reks Brobby Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the LOC were other officials present at the first press conference since the Games was opened.

The Chef du Mission for Team Ghana, Mr. Ernest Danso informed that everything at the Games Village is going on well and Team Ghana is highly motivated to win more medals as the competitions heat up.

According to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon Mustapha Ussif the 13th African Games has been efficacious saying it has been “So far, so good”.

He urged Ghanaians to visit the venues for the Games and support the athletes.

According to the Minister, Accra has been declared the Sports City of Africa by Sports Ministers meeting in the capital city of Ghana from 2024 to 2026 as the new facilities for the 13th African Games would serve future international events.

He thanked sponsors of the Games and the media for their support.
