In the heat of misunderstanding and many media personalities trying to understand the mode of accessing a Ghana Premier league match centre with their received accreditation issued by the Ghana Football Association, the media over fear might start to keep mute and subsequently dim the light on the slogan ‘Bring Back the Love’.
A letter to the GFA head and its executives.
“Dear President Okraku,
We have followed your works and manifesto and can attest to the fact that you are trying your very best to ensure the Ghana Premier League gets to its very best but we would love to draw your attention to some facts that are making your outfit unpopular.
i) Is it in the best interest for clubs to re-print media accreditations for league matches when the highest football governing body in Ghana has already issued media accreditation to media personalities?
ii) how is the education with the clubs media and communications teams?
iii) has it come to the time where the media will have to apply for media accreditation for league matches that kickoff every or most midweeks and weekends?
iv) are you aware these happenings have over the years caused a decline in the reportage of the Ghana Premier League?
These are some of the questions that are circulating around town.
The GFA has its own media team but it is never enough to cover the entire GPL matches and your outfit knows perfectly well that together with the other media outfits, bringing back the love is achievable.
The ‘Super Clash’ between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko was a league match which meant the GFA issued media accreditation is(was) a legal document to ensure a media person with such document is entitled to the venues but this was not the case. Many were manhandles and others had to walk away to save their face and security intimidation.
Unlike a special game like the President Cup, First Ladies Cup etc., asking the media to apply for accreditation would not be extraordinary.
The imagination that the GFA media accreditation is been ridiculed by some of the clubs is becoming very unfortunate.
Accra Hearts of Oak got their way with it and now Legon Cities have issued a communique asking the media to reapply for accreditations to enable them cover a GPL match.
If care is not taken to address these and many more issues, sooner than later your outfit would need to employ 200plus journalists to visit all match venues to make the league and its associated information heard.
We the media are but to support you and ensure the GPL reaches the very top but we cannot at the same time do it at the peril of our blood.
Kindly accept this letter with a right hand and look into matters because we believe you have the men to ensure sanity is brought to the game.
Thank you very much.
