Prior to the UEFA champions league clash between Bayern Munich and Fc Barcelona, Thomas Muller among other Bayern players had sent stern warnings to Barca after Lionel Messi won the 7th Ballon d’Or which they all thought was more deserving of Robert Lewandowski.
Benfica and Dynamo Kyiv played their match earlier where Benfica won by 2-0 meaning Fc Barcelona if they want to progress in to the next stages of the UEFA Champions league must defeat the ruthless Bayern Munich who were coming into the game with fury because Lewi did not win the most prestigious football award.
With slow gliding down the pitch, Bayern Munich took absolute control of the game and gave no room to the visitors.
Ousmane Dembele in the early minutes of the game had a glorious chance to put Fc Barca in front but his effort was lofted way over the goal post. Thomas Muller who has promised to show Fc Barca real football in the 34th minute of the game gave Bayern Munich the lead after Robert Lewandowski controlled the ball perfectly, cut back and cut in a sweet cross which was connected by Muller.
The Bavarians continued to press Fc Barca after opening the scoring and looked more dangerous and clinical in front of goal.
Leroy Sane who was spectacular from the start of the game, after receiving a pass in the centre of the field pushed the ball twice, lifted his eyes to see the position of Marc-Andre ter Stegan and rocketed one from far.
The German goal keeper with an attempt to parry the ball with one hand was not enough as Sane’s ball slipped into the net for Bayern Munich’s second goal.
Bayern Munich went into the half with a two (2) goals lead and Xavi needed a miracle to turn things around for his team in the second half.
The resumption of the second half was nothing different from the first as Bayern Munich continued to play authoritatively and marshalled the game throughout.
Jamal Musiala in the 62nd minute after Alphonso Davies turned Ronald Araujo inside-out sent in a close where he connected for Bayern’s third.
It was enough to send Fc Barca out of the UEFA champions league and to maintain their unbeaten record in the group stages of the UEFA champions league.
