The rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool continued as the two met in the FA cup on Sunday. Liverpool with their injury records and inexperienced defensive lineup always had one thing coming as Manchester United had in the previous games turned on their speed.
The lineup of Manchester United left out Bruno Fernandez who has been bashed for only scoring against supposedly small clubs.
Mohammed Salah who has been going through some goal droughts in the English Premier league opened the scoring against Manchester United at the Old Trafford stadium 18’ into the game.
The sloppy and inexperience of Klopps defensive line started to show their vulnerability as Marcus Rashford delivered a sweet pass to Mason Greenwood who said thank you with the ball behind Alisson Becker. Both teams went to the break with a goal and needed to improve their game.
The second half began with Manchester United on the front paddle. 3’ into the second half the man who gave the sweet assist was returned the same favour to net the second for Manchester United. Liverpool has now come from opening the scoring to lacking behind.
Play changed and Liverpool started to up their game as they handled more of play in the opposition’s half. 10’ after the Rashford put Man United in the lead, Mohammed Salah equalized with his second for the night. It had now turn into a proper contest.
Ole had to make some tactical and direct changes which saw Bruno Fernandez join the action. He immediately started making an impact with his positioning and touches.
76’ on, Edisson Cavanni was brought down on the edge of the box by Fabinho who wanted to cut the threat the Uruguayan posed but resulted in a free-kick.
Bruno quickly assumed responsibility of the free-kick and lofted it past Alisson to put the Red Devils in front again.
With Liverpool making positive advanced towards goal close to the end of proceedings, Victor Nilson Lindeloef and Paul Pogba had to commit some tactical fouls to prevent Liverpool from equalizing.
At the end of the final whistle, Manchester United recorded their famous win over Liverpool and knocked them out of the FA cup.
