Gianni Infantino who had been under investigation over the awarding of the World Cup hosting right has had another coming him way as the Special Prosecutor recommended that a Swiss criminal investigation should be launched against the President of the highest football governing body.
This has come about as the President of FIFA used a private yet during one of his operations. The legal twist materialized out of a case against the country’s former Attorney General. Mr. Stefan Keller who happens to be the Special Prosecutor following numerous inquiry into meetings the FIFA President had with the former Attorney General four years ago had been ringing the bell as no notes whatsoever was taken during these said meeting between Infantino and Michael Lauber(former Attorney General).
News broke in 2017 as a private jet was hired to fairy Mr. Gianni Infantino from Suriname in South America to Switzerland after his visit to some member federations in the Caribbean. With defense very vital, Mr. Infantino reiterated that said flight at that time was of importance as he needed to attend a meeting with the leadership of UEFA, further investigations into the matter revealed Mr. Aleksander Ceferin the UEFA president was on a vacation at the same time which made investigators to believe there was nothing official about the meeting.
FIFA in response to the ongoing made the following known “Neither FIFA nor its president have ever been informed of these new spurious allegations and they are therefore unable to comment on them, which is probably the intention of the ‘Special Prosecutor’. The mention of the ‘Special Prosecutor’ Stefan Keller to accuse and defame by publishing media releases without justification borders on character assassination and rejected in the strongest possible terms.
FIFA and its president will take all necessary legal steps to put an end to these baseless and ill-intentioned accusations.”
With this said, FIFA and its leadership sure will prepare to defend and ensure sanity and respect is attached to what is said that is geared at tarnishing the image of the President and the organization as a whole.
