The International Sports Press Association (AIPS) leadership has showed gratitude to all sports media personnel who have made it possible for sports reporting to reach the globe following the restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In their bid to honour sports media personalities for their input towards the success of sports globally, AIPS opened for submission of works covered by journos across the globe to be considered and awarded with a prize money for the overall best sports journo.
With 1700 plus submissions received from 133 countries, the leadership of AIPS has lauded journos for their great work and encourages more inputs as the grand finale draws near.
In the final day before deadline, the fourth edition of the AIPS Sport Media Awards showed a massive interest from all over the world, and the website peaked with submissions as the countdown approached the final hour.
In total, more than 1700 works were received, with journalists representing at least 133 nationalities who will be competing across the 8 senior categories (each of them with a top prize of 8,000 USD) and the optional Young Reporter category for the under 30s (with an AIPS scholarship as prize).
While we see some familiar names that have participated in every edition, we are also happy to see that the interest in the only global prize for sports journalism is growing, and new countries are represented for the first time.
WHAT’S NEXT – Now, every entry will be subject of a reviewing process to check that all the material is correct. All works must have been published between 10 November 2020 and 4 November 2021.
Once they get the green light, the judging begins. In total, there are five voting stages conducted by 40 professionals from 35 nations in order to reach the podium, in a ceremony scheduled for mid March 2022 in Italy, location and conditions depending on the evolution of the pandemic.
The first stage corresponds to a panel of specialists and mentors, that will narrow the works into a longlist per category. The members of the Executive Committee will make a first vote as they will select a shortlist.
The members of the Jury then will vote for the Top 10 nominees, Top 3 finalists and, the day before the ceremony, the winners.  These voting stages will be conducted in January and February 2022.
CERTIFICATES & RANKINGS – On top of the final podium, the AIPS Sport Media Awards will also publish the continental rankings, to celebrate the most voted works per category and per continent, and to offer recognition to participants on a local and regional level. Special certificates will also be issued, as proposed by the Jury.
The road to Sport Media Excellence now begins. Stay tuned and follow us on our social media channels, newsletters and websites, as we will start to unveil the best works of the world of sports journalism. And with 133 countries involved, when we say the world, we really mean it.
