The AIPS Executive Committee is pleased to confirm that the 84th AIPS Congress, an elective congress, which was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will be hosted by the Italian Sports Press Association (USSI)  in Rome, Italy from the 2nd to the 6th of October 2022. The charming TH – Carpegna Palace Hotel is ready to welcome all the delegates from around the world.

POSTPONEMENTS This will be the first in-person gathering of all the national associations since the last Congress which took place in Budapest in February 2020, after which a nightmarish COVID-19 pandemic swept across the world and brought it to a standstill.

The unprecedented pandemic forced the postponement of this Congress from 2021. It was initially pushed back to the first half of March 2022 but unforseen circumstances led to a further delay.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE Executive Committee members, Honorary members, delegates of national sports press associations and observers have until August 15, 2022 to register their participation by simply clicking on the 84th AIPS Congress banner at the top of the www.aipsmedia.com home page or clicking here. As already stated the deadline to register is August 15, 2022.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ELECTIONS Alongside electing the new leadership of the association, there will be continental elections and executive meetings as well as important discussions on the ever-changing face of sports journalism, especially post-Covid.

ONLINE MEETINGS AND EVENTS In spite of the challenges arising from the pandemic, AIPS has remained in constant contact with its member associations through online meetings, providing updates on the Congress, the AIPS Sport Media Awards and other initiatives. There have also been regular EC meetings via Zoom.

The past two years has seen AIPS organise virtual programmes like the AIPS e-College, AIPS seminar and the AIPS World e-Conference. Due to the lockdown and travel restrictions the last AIPS Sport Media Awards ceremony was held in the Vigevano Castle, with the winners, jurors and EC members connecting online. However, the option of holding a virtual Congress in 2021 was shelved considering the sensitive nature of an elective congress.

AIPS SPORT MEDIA AWARDS 2021 CEREMONY

On June 12, the AIPS Sport Media Awards 2021 will take centre stage at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, four months before the most important gathering of sports journalists across the world.
