As the countdown continues to the much-anticipated TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Cote D’Ivoire 2023, preparations to ensuring that CAF delivers yet another globally successful event are in full swing.
The CAF Medical Division was in Cote D’Ivoire quite recently where they concluded a two-day CAF Medical Workshop on 22 and 23 July – led by CAF’s Medical Manager, Dr. Boubakary Sidiki as well as CAF Medical Committee Member, Dr. Yasser Abdel Rahman.
Held at the Laforge Hotel in Abidjan, the workshop formed part of the build-up to Africa’s biggest event, where Health and Medical matters form a key component of hosting an event of this nature.
The highly-informative and engaging workshop was attended by Medical Practitioners in the form of Doctors, Physios and Paramedics, where they were taken through CAF’s latest models of how to react to medical emergencies such as Concussions, Cardiac Arrest, Head & Neck Trauma, Heat Stroke as well as any other medical emergencies – both on and off the field.
Speaking after the successful gathering, Dr. Sidiki said the importance of Health and Medical matters has evolved when it comes to the hosting of international competitions and it was important that the LOC and Host Cities are fully equipped and prepared to host the world next year.
The Medical Division’s primary role at CAF Competitions involves among other things to ensure that all stadiums, hospitals, airports and hotels are well equipped to react to any medical requirements that may arise with the hosting of an international event that draws thousands of fans from across the world.
“This was an incredibly successful workshop with the LOC and all the medical practitioners that were present. Health and Medical plays a crucial role in the hosting of such an internationally recognised event, and it is important that we ensure that we are ready and well-equipped – both theoretically and practically with the latest methods and technology to address any Medical matters that may arise” said Dr. Sidiki.
In addition to the Medical workshop, CAF’s Anti-Doping Unit also shared a presentation on the latest developments in relation to Anti-Doping and how these need to be prepared for ahead of the competition.
