Mubarak Yusif Nanor has gradually become a household name when it comes to boxing match making in Ghana and his works over the years have been evident of his achievements.
Venturing into a sector that many are running away from due to the expenditure involved and thriving makes him one of the envy of many. Nanor has been around the world ensuring boxing lovers have the best when it comes to getting the best in boxing and bringing the best boxers to showcase their skills in the ring.
Recently, Nanor who has been making matches for years expressed disappointment in a couple of boxers who were billed on a fight but withdrew suddenly. In an exclusive interview with the enterprising boxing match maker he said,
“I have been wondering why Alidu and Derrick are not part of the scheduled fight slated for 6th March as they were creating waves about how they were going to impress fans at the event centre. Alidu prior to accepting to the fight showcased speed and skills on the streets which made me question his opponent via my social media handle whether he was ready for what he saw. Until now it still beats my imagination.
I am really disappointed and I can’t lie about it because it is sad to go and lobby a promoter to pay approximately 40kghc for venue and other stuff then later hear that the opponent doesn’t want to fight. What worries me more is that, if they know they are not ready why make me go through that stress. These factors really scare away investors and that is what many boxers have little idea of. Being a good boxers alone is not enough but a promoter and match maker adds up to get you up there.
The good news about the entire disappointment is that, after all these boxers withdrew, I asked Musah Lawson if he would move and fight in another weight and he rightly agreed. He even added he was ready to fight any boxer and that is where Obodai Sai came in. I spoke to his management and they were positive and that sorted the 6th March event.”
With what the enterprising match maker has said, many boxers need to really look at their way of ditching fights as it scares aways promoters and other investors. Picking on opponents who are easy to defeat doesn’t make champions but champions are those who dare to adventure.
Musah Lawson and Obodai Sai are both boxers who have dared to reach greatness and I know this will be one fight that will lift the euphoria at the arena on the 6th of March.
In his closing remarks, Nanor added, “I want to make boxing lovers feel appreciated with the best matches and make them feel happy going to the arena not just to watch their boxer but also to see the best boxers rumble for glory.”
