Chelsea after a bad season in the English Premier league appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their new coach to help put things together for the club in the coming season.
Pochettino with the number of players on his bill had no option than to make a statement which he did after their pre-season friendlies against Wrexham at their USA tour. Chelsea who featured new players for the first half of the game didn’t take long to break the deadlock as Nicolas Jackson dribbled through the defense of Wrexham to make an assist to Ian Maatsen who guided the ball into the post.
Chelsea although been the premier league side chased after the ball in the opening minutes of the first half as Wrexham dominated play with some swift counter attacks which did not yield any results.
Maatsen after opening the scoring in the opening three minutes added a second in the 42′ minute of the game. Although Chelsea was leading with two goals, they still kept pressing and testing their ability as Pochettino was seen issuing commands from the touchline.
After the whistle went for the break, Pochettino who looked rather dissatisfied with the referee was seen voicing his displeasure before walking off the field with his players.
The second half was nothing shy of the first as Chelsea started with more pace and domination with a couple of substitutions, Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell, Conor Gallagher, Angelo Gabriel, Christopher Nkunku, Alfie Gilchrist, Lewis Hall and Lucas Bergstrom all has their turn on the pitch as they tore Wrexham apart.
The flow of play was sturdy as both teams tried to keep possesion until the 80th minute when Conor Gallagher added the third for Chelsea, Chelsea’s new signing Christopher Nkunku joined the play as he netted in the 90′ minute.
Ben Chilwell who was out of play for most parts of the last season only needed three minutes after Nkunku to add to the tally as Chelsea recorded a 5-0 victory over Wrexham who has lot of support at the stadium.
