Manchester United after parting ways with head coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have made an impressive comeback under caretaker manager Michael Carrick in the UEFA Champions league.
After losing against Watford at the Vicarage Road, Manchester United sacked Ole and Carrick took charge and matched the team to Spain to take on Villarreal in the UCL.
The game started with both teams playing from behind and ensuring their defensive line is protected and with little mistakes. Villarreal had majority of possession but recorded less shots on target as Manchester United tried their own luck with getting an opener.
The first half of their second tie ended barren and seemed it was going to end in a draw until Cristiano Ronaldo ignited his spark on the game.
In the 78′ minute of the game, the all time men’s goal scorer, Cristiano Ronaldo made another addition to his career goals as he opened the scoring for Manchester United.
It was all joy for the Red Devils as their opener sends them to the top of the group with 10 points. Twelve (12) minutes after his opener, Jadon Sancho found the back of the net for his first goal in a Manchester United shirt. His celebration showcased his much awaited effort to record his first for the club with numerous goals to come.
Other results from the UCL are highlighted below;
FC BARCELONA 0 – 0 BENFICA
YOUNG BOYS 3 – 3 ATALANTA
LILLE 1 – 0 FC SALZBURG
SEVILLA 2 – 0 WOLFSBURG
