Before been elected as the CAF President, Dr. Motsepe, founder and executive chair of African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) was a football enthusiast. He is also the founder and chair of Ubuntu-Botho Investments, African Rainbow Capital and African Rainbow Energy and Power, the chair of Harmony Gold and President of Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club.
As part of his two-days working visit to Accra, Ghana. The CAF president CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe met with Ghana Head of State, HE Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, Ghana Football President Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku and other stakeholders in the country.
After numerous meetings about his official visit, the CAF President also reiterated the following,
“I have watched Ghana at various tournaments even before becoming the CAF president, at the world cup hosted in my country South Africa, during the Brazil world cup among other competitions. Ghana has honestly produced a lot of talents that can be celebrated today and it is in the right direction if the football administration is investing in football development.
It’s good to help the Youth and so I am glad to be here to share ideas with the Youth and also to meet the President of the Republic of Ghana and other top officials.
We at CAF are committed to support the course and ensure that Ghana football like every other African country is equipped enough to challenge for laurels at the grand stage.
We rallied behind Ghana in South Africa during the 2010 world cup and the feeling was electric. This is what football is about and this is why much attention should be given to football development in the country”
