The 2021 AFCON has been marred by various officiating mistakes as well as the misuse of VAR by name center referees during their games.
This has left many teams and their management to relate the effect to trying any means possible to ensure the trophy is won by a specific country.
After many calls for equity and accountability on and off the pitch, FECAFOOT President Samuel Eto’o has responded to criticisms directed at Cameroon in line with the Covid-19 cases detected within teams at the AFCON.
Speaking in an interview with Canal+ Sport, Samuel Eto’o urged for respect towards Cameroon. He clarified that the tests are fully controlled by CAF.
“Tunisia had seven players who tested positive against Nigeria. I don’t think Tunisia was playing against Cameroon. Morocco, in its first game was penalized, but did not play against Cameroon. It is not fair play to insinuate things, to accuse the Cameroonian government, to accuse me”.
With his response to the questions been asked, many have stilled quizzed why only smaller teams have recorded covid cases and lost majority of their players as Cameroon has still not.
CAF president Dr. Patrice Motsepe has however reiterated that the COVID-19 test has been given to an individual medical centre and this will ensure fair and a trustworthy reportage.
