As confirmed by the International Olympic Committee document dated June 1, 2023, the men’s and women’s qualifying tournament will be held in Dakar, Senegal from September 9 to 15, 2023.

Recall that the previous African qualifications for the Tokyo Games had already taken place in Dakar in February 2020.

This year, for the elite men, there will be 7 weight categories instead of 8 in Dakar in 2020. That is 51KG, 57KG, 63.5KG, 71KG, 80KG, 92KG, +92KG. The middle points have simply been removed.

Dakar 2020 allowed 22 male boxers to qualify in 8 categories.

Dakar 2024 will only qualify 7 male boxers, only the winners of their category.

For the elite ladies, there will be 6 weight categories instead of 5 in Dakar in 2020. That is 50KG, 54KG, 57KG, 60KG, 66KG, 75KG. The 54KG category has been added.

Dakar 2020 allowed 11 female boxers to obtain their qualification in 5 categories.

Dakar 2024 will qualify 11 female boxers from 6 categories.

Thereafter, two world events will allow African boxers to snatch their qualification in 2024. The dates and places of these events have not yet been determined.
