Argentina’s Jeremias Azana continued his incredible run of upsets at the Kinetic 3k Challenger Presented by Sundip Murthy, and he will now face England’s Tom Walsh, the event’s top seed, in the final on Saturday.
Azana came into the semi-finals of the Challenger 3 level tournament having already taken out No.7 seed Jorge Gomez and No.3 seed Ahsan Ayaz to make it to the last four in Florida.
In the semis, he took on No.6 seed Andres Herrera, and it was a lengthy battle, with the pair no court for more than an hour and a half. After winning the first, the Argentinian then saved game balls in the second before taking it 15-13 to double his advantage.
The Colombian fought back though, to win the third 12-10, before Azana was able to scrape through the fourth game, winning it 11-9 to win after 94 minutes of action, and to reach his first final on Tour.
He will face England’s Tom Walsh, the tournament’s top seed, after he got the better of compatriot Mark Broekman in a straight games battle. The Englishman won to in less than half an hour to keep his record of coming through the event without dropping a game in tact.
The final will take place on Saturday, February 19 at the Kinetic Indoor Racquet Club in Boynton Beach, Florida.
