The race which boiled down to Poland and Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski and Argentine and Paris Saint-Germain winger Lionel Messi was rather easy to call as the Ballon d’Or award ceremony ended with the much expected new.
Robert Lewandowski who was tipped by many to clinch this particular honours was beaten by Lionel Messi who won it to make a record seventh time.
The Argentine after helping his nation lift the Copa America trophy placed himself in a keen contention for the award and his tireless effort for the year in review has been enough to place his above reach by any other footballer both alive or dead.
Robert Lewandowski however was awarded the Striker of the year, a new award that was introduced during this years award ceremony.
Congratulations to Lionel Messi on his record well mounted.
