Augustine Manasseh won the 2024 edition of the Golden Classic Golf Championship held at the Center of the World Club in Tema.
It was barely a week after the lucky man went home with ghc 20,000 after winning the 2024 President’s Putter Golf Championship which took place at the Celebrity Golf Club at Sakumono,
The Tema- based golfer Manasseh played 206 ten under pal for a period of three days to annex the competition’s top prize cash and trophy after beating the forty other golfers.
The Golden Classic Golf Tournament is one of the four flagship competitions under the PGA’s road to Damang series and for the first in the history of the qualifiers featured a lady golfer in Mercy Werner who unfortunately together with other golfers couldn’t make it after the cut off.
On Manasseh’s way to victory the former amateur golfer battled it out on the final day of the championship with the likes of Vincent Torgah also from the venue club, Tarkwa based Kojo Barnni and Emmanuel Osei. Their splendid strokes on the greens especially at the final three holes caught the attention of the few lovers of the game at the venue.
Speaking after receiving the championship trophy and a cheque of ghc 5000 cedis at the clubhouse, Manessah expressed his excitement following what he described as a hard-fought victory against some of the best professional golfers in the country.
According to the 2024 Golden Classic Championship winner, he prepared very well as he knew of a huge challenge from other golfers and promised to be better in the next qualifier of the PGA.
Vincent Torgah who scored 208 eight placed second and took home ghc 4000 as his prize. He described the tournament as very competitive, he praised the winner for his zeal and commitment to the game Torgah however mentioned that he will have to improve upon his game to welcome the latest stiff challenge from other golfers.
Emmanuel Osei finished third ahead of Kojo Barnni and Enock Kofi Owusu.
The senior’s category also played for two days had joint winners in Robert Allotey and Emos Korblah after they played 147 over the period.
The tournament director of PGA, Eric Henaku congratulated all the golfers for their performance, and discipline during and after the competition and stressed the PGA will need more sponsorships to stage tournament frequently across the nation.
