Medeama deny choosing Baba Yara for CAF games

Ghana Premier League champions Medeama Sporting Club have denied settling on the Baba Yara Sports Stadium for their CAF Champions League group stage games.

It has been reported that the Tarkwa-based side has chosen the Kumasi stadium for their remaining games in the ongoing Caf Interclub competition, but the club has come out to deny those reports.

The Ghanaian champions say the T and A Stadium in Tarkwa remains their first option and awaits inspection and clearance from the CAF.

A statement released on Tuesday reads: “We bring to the attention of our supporters and the sporting public that Medeama Sporting Club has not selected the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi as its home venue for the group stage of the 2023–24 CAF Champions League.

The club has chosen the T&A Stadium in Tarkwa as its first option, awaiting inspection and clearance from the continent’s governing body, the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Currently, the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi and the Cape Coast Stadium remain the only two approved venues for the group phase of the CAF inter-club competition.

The two venues are under consideration together with the newly built T&A Stadium in Tarkwa.

The Cape Coast Stadium served as the home venue of the team during the preliminary round, with a decision on the permanent venue for the group stage to be made soon.
