Former Orlando Pirates left-back – Patrick Thulani Phungwayo has been denied bail by South African police, his brother Aubrey has confirmed.
According to multiple reports, the Alexandra born defender has been arrested for house robbery that allegedly took place in Lombardy East but his brother has denied the story.
“Basically, they’ve found two hijacked cars on his property in his backyard,” Aubrey Phungwayo told Kickoff.com
“There’s a guy he grew up with who asked to park two cars at Boca’s place as he owns a car panel beating shop. They’ve been doing this for a month now.
“So because Boca is not always home, the gate was opened manually, and these guys have their own key. They are used to bringing cars there.
“So what happened, I think these boys were chased by police, they went there and parked the cars and fled. There were four of them, these boys.
“I think the one who is called David was caught by police around the same area, but Boca was inside his house with his wife and child.
“When the police knocked at his gate, Boca went to investigate, so obviously if cars are in his yard it becomes his responsibility. So that’s how he got arrested.
“Regarding bail, he is not out on bail as they’ve denied him bail because they want to first confirm the other guy’s home address as he is from Soshanguve. Boca doesn’t even know that guy.
“On Monday, he is going back to court, so reports of him failing to raise R1500 for bail is not true. What I’m telling you now is the truth,” the elder Aubrey Phungwayo added.
