The Barvarians who have dominated both in the German Bundesliga and other football competitions had to bow out in horror losing woefully in the DFB-Pokal match.
Bayern Munich who came into the match against Borussia Monchengladbach with a 5-1 win against Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, 4-0 win against Benfica in the UEFA champions and a 4-0 win over Hoffenheim.
Bayern Munich who were favourites coming into the game got the bashing of their life after Borussia Monchengladbach gave them a shocker. Bayern paraded their entire regular squad who could not dance to the music played by their host as they were thrashed by 5-0.
Bayern Munich who have held their defensive lines for more than forty-years(40) without conceding this number of goals did and had no answers to that regard.
In the opening two(2) minutes of the game, Breel Embolo provided an assist to Kouadi Kone to break the deadlock. Many would suggest Bayern will stage a come but it was a different story. Thirteen(13) minutes after the opener, Ramy Bensebaini added the second and recorded his brace from the spot kick after six(6) minutes.
The first half ended with Bayern Munich down by three(3) unanswered goals.
The second half began with same pace from the home side as Breel Embolo added two successive goals in the fifty-first(51st) and fifty-seventh(57th) minutes of the second half to keep Borussia Monchengladbach in a comfortable lead.
The hosts held on with little to more mistake committed on the night as they kept a clean sheet against Bayern Munich who are a team are in contention for every trophy they come across.
The disappointment on the face of the players and technical team was more than noticeable as they could not recover in time from the shock they have been put through.
Thomas Muller after their bashing at Monchengladbach added, “I’m still speechless about tonight’s game. That was definitely not “bayernlike”- we have to say sorry to all our fans and supporters. Nevertheless we have to take it as professional as it’s possible and get all that negative stuff out of our heads till Saturday. Congrats to @borussia”.
