The second half started a bit different with Aston Villa playing more with intent and precision. Ollie Watkins needed only two minutes after the resumption to pull one back for Aston Villa but ended up playing into the philosophy of Pep Guardiola.
The game ended 1-2 in favour of Manchester City leaving Steven Gerrard to revisit the drawing board for his next fixture.
