The national boxing team (The black bombers) in their preparation to the Japan Olympic games have received favourable gestures from people in sports and the corporate entity.
Today at their routine training at the Bukom Boxing Arena, the Black Bombers training was graced by the current Minister for Sports, Hon. Mustapha Hamid, the Ghana Olympic Committee President, Mr. Ben Nunoo among others to show their continued support to their cause.
While everyone of the qualified Olympians could not hold their joy after meeting the Minister for Sports, they made known to him their struggles throughout the start of their campaign where he made some assurances to calm all nerves.
With many of the boxers crying over unpaid bonuses and per diem, the Minister in his personal contribution through the GOC President donated a sum of one thousand dollars (USD1,000) to the Black Bombers to help them in their preparations towards the games in Japan.
The President of the Ghana Boxing Federation in appreciation thanked the Minister for sports as he pleaded on him to do more to support the team while going to Japan.
“We are trying to move from paying national sports persons hugs sums of money for appearing at events or tournaments, rather, we are going to reward athletes and other national sports persons based on performance as this will motivate them to do more and win more laurels for the country and to themselves.”
It was a nice scene as Twellium Ghana was also present to show their continued support to the Black Bombers as they presented some assorted drinks, water and biscuits which was received with the appropriate accolades.
The Minister in his closing remarks after his visit to the Black Bombers training session used the ground to call on other entities to emulate Twellium Ghana in supporting the Black Bombers to gold in Japan.
