Ashanti Gold of the Ghana Premier League and Kumasi Asante Kotoko were the two club that represented Ghana in the CAF Confederations and Champions League respectively following the abrupt stoppage of the Ghana Premier League due to the scare of the COVID-19.
Ashanti Gold who were to open the Ghana Premier League fixture with Accra Hearts Of Oak had their match postponed due to their involvement in the CAF tournament.
While the Gold miners were hopeful of progressing to the next stage of the CAF Confederations cup, they has a high mantle to climb as their rival have same aspiration. The first leg took place in Accra at the Accra Sports Stadium where the visitors (Salitas FC) drew in a one-all game after the end of proceeding. This left a rather difficult task for Ashanti Gold as they had to go for a win to sure a place in the next stage.
With Salitas FC having an away goal to their advantage, Ashanti Gold had no option that to go for the kill or to draw in a margin higher that a goal.
Salitas FC were very solid from the beginning of proceeding during the return leg as they put 2 goals past Ashgold. This made it very difficult for the Ghana representatives to adapt but rather see to their early exit. Although Salitas FC took control of the Game, the Miners pulled one back but that wasn’t enough to guarantee them a place to progress.
With their return to Ghana, Ashanti Gold must prepare their minds as they will be competing for another honours in the Ghana Premier League and other tournaments that comes with it.
