Manchester United after some setbacks in their title race aspiration bounced back in style and has got many talking. After losing to Sheffield United at home to lose the top stop of the English Premier league to neighbours Manchester City.
Ole and his men have always come back stronger and much prepared after losing a game and with a record of the most away wins in the season, Manchester United are gunning to extend such to their home games.
Tuesday, 2nd February 2021 is a day no Southampton fan would like to remember as well as 25th October 2019 as Southampton recorded two of their worst defeats in football history.
The game started with little to desire as both teams traded with caution until everything changed in the second minute. Injuries caused Ralph Hasenhuettl to field some of his young lads against Manchester United and it did not go as he had planned.
Alexandre Jankewitz launched a tackle into the tight of Scott McTominay which saw the referee reach for a straight red card. Southampton were a man down and had a fierce attacking Manchester United to play for 90 minutes including additional time it any.
It did not take long for Manchester United to start utilizing their man advantage over the visitors who were scattered in doubt on the field.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka found the back of the net for the opening for Manchester United and the defense of the visitors went into disarray.
Marcus Rashford added the second in the 25’ as Jan Bednarek added the third in an own goal for the home team. Edinson Cavani wasn’t left out of the action as he added the fourth 5’ after Bednarek’s own goal.
The fun began in the second half as Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay added the fifth and sixth in the 69’ and 71’ respectively. Bruno Fernandez started itching for a goal as the opening was wide and soon had his chance from the spot kick as Jan Bednarek’s tackle saw Manchester United awarded a penalty. Bruno took the responsibility and added his name on the score sheet but did not end the suffering of Southampton.
Anthony Martial added his second in the 90’ to make it eight as Daniel James placed the cherry on top by adding the ninth in the additional minutes of the second half.
