Former Black Bomber and current Ghana National Boxing coach, Dr. Ofori Asare who doubles as the founder of Wisdom Boxing Gym has made it clear that boxing is a sport that required attention, dedication, determination and strength and his experience in the sport will help him raise world title contenders in the coming years.
Under the tutelage Dr. Coach Ofori Asare, Ghana has made history on the world front after breaking the long standing medal drought at the just ended Tokyo Olympic games by winning a Bronze Medal in boxing after Samuel Takyi fought gallantly with the technical genius in his corner.
Coach Ofori Asare also lead Jessie Lartey to the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games where he won a medal as did Abdul Wahid Omar at the 2014 Scotland Commonwealth Games. His love for boxing is enormous and has promised he is going to train the next generation of world champions for Ghana boxing.
At the Wisdom Boxing Gym, Coach Ofori Asare said,
“I have been a boxer myself and i know what it takes to be at the top of your game. i have trained boxers who are making it and i have through the period learn a lot of new things that when added to this current training will help the boxers understand the art and not just the fighting aspect of it.
I have seen the talents and i am working with the talents, sometimes it is only difficult to choose who should do what and not because the boxers are all on top of their game.
When you see a future prospect, you will see it as a talent developer and myself and the team are going to work tirelessly to ensure these juvenile, youth and pro boxers in the gym have their names broadcasted to the world like Prof. Azumah Nelson did for Ghana.”
After their training session, Coach Ofori Asare added,
“Working from an individual gym has been difficult sometimes, you have to fund yourself and ensure the talents in the gym are making good use of their time but when they hit the world stage, they represent Ghana at large.
We would love to see corporate individuals visit our gyms frequently to come and see the work and effort we put in daily, we would love for government and corporate individuals to understand when they are supporting us.
We can not do this alone and we will also not stop because help is not coming, we shall make it attractive and at the end, its attractiveness will bring in the sponsors that will appreciate the plan that we have put in place.”
The Black Bombers Coach who has another Commonwealth Games to prepare for used the opportunity to ask for government to support the team during their training period so that can do more than they did at the Tokyo Olympic games.
