Ashanti Gold FC has been one of the greats when it comes to the Ghana premier league and as the GPL was suspended sue to the COVID-19 were given the nord alongside Kumasi Asante Kotoko to represent the country in the CAF confederations and CAF Champions league tournament.
Ashanti Gold have been drawn against Salitas FC who are a newly promoted side in their home league. Salitas FC were promoted to the Burkinabé Premier League after the 2016–17 season following an improved and determined mindset.
Their game was a cracker as the home team had not played any active football for a while but has a lot to show. Ashanti Gold played hosts to Salitas FC in the first leg as they drew by 1-1. The return fixture at Burkina Faso was rather much anticipated as the Miners were tipped for a qualification but Salitas FC has other plans for the night.
Salitas Fc after picking a point in Ghana against Ashanti Gold hosted them in the return fixture at the Stade du 4 Août 1983 (4 August 1983 Stadium) a multi-purpose stadium in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The home team did not waste lots of time as they opened the scoring on the 12′ minute. Olivier Stephane Boissy, a 21yrs Salitas Fc player who was on fire throughout the game scored his second on the 44′ to give the home side a resounding lead.
Ashanti Gold however staged a comeback as they drew a goal back on the die minutes of the first half, they now needed another goal to qualify to the next stage following the away goal rule but the defense of the home team ensured nothing passed by them as the match ended in favour of Salitas Fc 2-1.
With both legs played, the aggregate was 3-2 in favour of Salitas Fc and the Miners had to come to Ghana to prepare for the Ghana Premier league.
