The WAFU tournament saw the Black Satellites of Ghana hustle through some of the U-20 greats in the like of Nigeria, Cote D’ivore, Niger and Burkina Faso.
Winning against Nigeria in the U-20 was a great feat for the Black Satellites as the two teams remain fierce rivals in football both in the senior and junior levels.
The Black Satellites progressed to the final of the WAFU tournament after beating Niger in the semifinal on penalty shootouts. The Black Satellites emerges winning after netting 5 goals against 3 to Niger.
After qualifying for the U-20 AFCON, the Black Satellites had little to lose as their main objective had been achieved but targeted gold after showing promise in the tournament and realizing the final honours was not far from their reach.
The final of the WAFU tournament saw Burkina Faso and Ghana fist it off for the trophy as the Black Satellites ensured they wrapped it all up in the end of proceedings. Burkina Faso gave the Black Satellites a test to accomplish as they gave them a run for their money.
It ended in a 2-1 victory for the Black Satellites as they got crowned champions of the WAFU zone B tournament that was hosted in Benin.
