The ace amateur boxer and now Ghana amateur boxing coach Dr. Ofori Asare successfully took a three-man boxing team to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and produced spectacular performances with one of his boxers winning Ghana’s only medal and breaking a long standing Olympic medal drought for the country.
The Sports Writers’ Association of Ghana (SWAG) holds one of the most prestigious awards in Ghana and have nominated Dr. Coach Ofori Asare in the Coach of the year category and Dedication and Valor.
The happy coach expressed his satisfaction to been nominated for the categories and thanked SWAG for noticing his efforts in the sport. Handling Wisdom Boxing Gym, Dr. Ofori Asare has promised to produce not only amateur champions but also pro world champions for Ghana.
Coach Ofori Asare after his nomination waxed lyrical saying,
“Being a boxing coach has given me the opportunity to touch a lot of people’s lives and made them better. I have given my all over the years to make Ghana Boxing Greater at boxing club level, national level and the international platform as well.
This year has been great for me on boxing, converting Wisdom Boxing Gym into an indoor gym, qualifying three (3) boxers to the Olympics, eight (8) Black Bombers ranked in the world for the first time and two (2) of my professional boxers also ranked in the world, becoming a four (4) time Olympic participant and winning bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics for the first time in 29years in Ghana history and 49years in the boxing history for Ghana with Samuel ‘Ring Warrior’ Takyi bringing my total international medals won for Ghana with boxers to 135 at tournaments.
