The Continental Club Masters, Accra Hearts of Oak are back to winning ways and all line light in on their new signing and prodigal son Gladson Awako.
In a tense game against Elmina Sharks, Accra Hearts of Oak who had picked three (3) points from four (4) games needed a definite win which seemed not to be forth coming but never gave up as they had the qualities to ensure they bag a goal or more.
The GPL has been very competitive and this has seen many teams blaming their defeats to referees actions.
Coach Samuel Boadu and his Ass. Hamza Obeng looking focused on the touch lines were expecting fireworks from kickoff but Boadu’s team took it one at a time until they settled and started to give Elmina Sharks a run for their money.
The first half was quiet with no goals and little threats by both sides and ended null.
The second half needed a bit of magic and luck to ensure one team picks maximum points and that luck feel to Accra Hearts of Oak who needed the points to warm their way back into the GPL.
Gladson Awako, nicknamed the ‘Prodigal son’ for various reasons probably paid off his debt in todays game after a magnificent ‘awako-like’ strike. In the 72nd minute of the second half, Accra Hearts of Oak on a break got the ball to Awako right outside the box and all he needed was to turn and face the goal.
As he has done against Accra Hearts of Oak on numerous occasions, Awako now in the phobian jersey had to give Elmina Sharks a taste of his magic.
Gladson Awako rocketed the ball from outside the box with the ball dipping so sweetly into the back of Sharks net to give Accra Hearts of Oak the most needed win.
The excitement on the face of Ass. Coach Hamza Obeng spoke of how important the goal was.
In the 76th minute and 83rd minutes, Ibrahim Suraj and Ibrahim Salifu both got booked with their second yellow cards and sent off the field respectively.
Accra Hearts of Oak who have given away majority of their leads away in their previous Ghana premier league games managed to see this one through and to secure maximum points.
