Ahead of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth games, the Queen launched the Baton Relay which has been scheduled to travel through over 70 participating countries in the games. Ghana which happens to be one of the participating countries had the honour to welcome the Queen’s Baton Relay in its shored.
On behalf of the Republic of Ghana, H. E President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo received the Queen’s Baton Relay which is expected to tour the shores of Ghana for three(3) days before it moves to its next destination with a number of people named to bear the torch as it roams Ghana.
The President during the receiving of the Queen’s Baton Relay was assisted by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Akosua Frema Opare, Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif accompanied by his deputy, Hon. Evans Opoku Bobie, Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof. Peter O. Twumasi and Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee.
It was all joy as the latter Mr. Ben Nunoo Mensah took to his heel with the Queen’s Baton Relay to showcase Ghana’s readiness to embrace the Commonwealth games come 2022.
Ghana whose participation in the Commonwealth games over the years has produced medal are hopeful for another fruitful event come 2022. At the last Commonwealth games in Gold Coast, Australia, Ghana’s Jessie Lartey won a bronze medal in boxing and Ghana is looking to capitalize on the fitness of many other Athletes to represent the country.
